Scrapheap Shuttle
A downloadable game
Scrapheap Shuttle is a sci-fi themed shoot-em-up game with puzzle elements, where you guide your spacecraft through outer space and waves of aliens in an attempt to get to the Interstellar Academy before you're too late.
Set in an alternate universe where humans have populated most of the nearby galaxies, and regularly commute via space-travel to reach places of employment and/or learning. Aliens have only recently made contact with humans, and are currently attacking the Interstellar Academy.
You play as a broke, but resourceful, student that has been accepted into the Interstellar Academy, 12 lightyears away. But faster-than-light space travel is expensive, so the student has scavenged parts from scrap yards to craft their own spaceship. The student begins the long trip to the Interstellar Academy, only to find their travel fraught with danger. Can the student keep up with the repairs and get to the Academy in one piece?
Take flight in your shuttle, controlling it from a top-down exterior perspective. Fly around space (WASD or Arrow Keys to move), using your ship's laser cannon (Mouse to aim, LMB to fire) to defend yourself against the alien attack. Collisions with aliens damages your ship. Repair your ship by switching to Maintenance mode (Spacebar).
In Maintenance mode, you are brought inside the flight deck of your shuttle. Damage that you have taken has broken important systems. You must play minigames (Mouse and LMB to interact with broken systems) in order to repair the damaged systems and gain health before the next wave of aliens reaches you. When you are ready for action again, switch to Point and Shoot mode (Spacebar).
Maintenance Minigames:
- Loose Wires - Click on the wire box to open it, then drag each wire on the left to the wire that matches colour with it on the right. Gum seals the connection if it is correct.
- Cracked Window - Click on the tape dispenser on the table to grab some tape, then click on cracks in the window until you have placed ten different strips of tape. When the window breaks again, the tape will have been sucked out into space.
- Glitching Monitor - Click on the glitching monitor until it stops shaking. For some reason, the Blue Screen of Death makes the ship work.
As you reach later and later waves, more aliens appear to attack you. Your score is increased every time you destroy an alien, and a 'flawless bonus' is added to your score each time you survive a wave without being damaged. Try to survive 10 waves with your ship intact to unlock a secret cutscene! After the cutscene, you have the opportunity to continue your playthrough to obtain a high score!
